Saarbrücken – Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) says he continues to assume that the new hospital reform can come into force on January 1, 2025.
“Today is a good day for the hospitals in Saarland, but also for reform,” he said at the state press conference in Saarbrücken. He had previously met for talks with Prime Minister Anke Rehlinger (SPD) and Health Minister Magnus Jung (SPD).
Lauterbach agreed with Jung that they had “made a lot of progress” and had found consensus on two important points: the use of the transformation fund and the way in which specialist clinics receive better conditions for their work. He did not give any details, saying the discussions were confidential.
Jung was pleased to be able to once again introduce the Saarland positions in the final debate on the reform. The aim is to ensure greater quality in patient care and less bureaucracy, but also to ensure less economic pressure and better facilities in the hospitals.
In Lauterbach’s opinion, the new regulations in Saarland will “find fertile ground”. Because they would work best in those federal states where people have already committed themselves to active hospital planning and leave nothing to chance.

In view of the current number of infections, the Federal Minister of Health recommended that everyone who has not had Corona this year and who is over 60 years old or has risk factors should have their vaccinations refreshed. He stands “100 percent” behind the recommendations of the Standing Vaccination Commission.
It is still the case that severe cases are also being noted, and there is also the risk of long COVID. In addition, this disease can cause permanent damage if you have it more often. “As a 65-year-old, saying it’s not a problem for me if I get COVID once or twice a year, that’s not such a smart idea,” he stressed. © dpa/aerzteblatt.de
