Hanover – In the future, all students in Lower Saxony should learn how to recognize a cardiac arrest and take measures to resuscitate it. This is provided for in a joint proposal from the government factions of the SPD and the Greens as well as the opposition CDU, which will be discussed in the state parliament today.
Resuscitation lessons should therefore become an integral part of the curricula. The parliamentary groups demand that the state government should revise the core biology and natural sciences curricula at secondary level I.
Secondary level I covers years 5 to 10. The government should also provide practice-oriented teaching and information materials.
In addition, there will be a regular revitalization month with the support of external aid organizations. This year, “Revival Weeks” were held for the first time with the motto “School saves hearts”.
The SPD, Greens and CDU justify their plan by saying that training in resuscitation is essential in order to increase the survival rate in the event of a cardiac arrest.
By integrating resuscitation content into school lessons, students could increase the likelihood of timely and competent action being taken in emergency situations, the application states. © dpa/aerzteblatt.de
