Primary prevention as a key factor – heart health begins in childhood

The topic of heart health has finally received the attention it deserves since the BMG’s draft bill for the so-called Healthy Heart Act (GHG). Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death in Germany, with over 350,000 deaths each year. The GHG offers good approaches. At the same time, more efforts must be made to prevent the development of cardiovascular diseases, emphasize representatives of the professional association. Since socioeconomic factors also influence heart health, offers for learning a healthy lifestyle and prevention should be available, especially for children and families from less privileged backgrounds, demands the DGIM.
