Cologne The professional association of pediatricians and adolescent doctors (BVKJ) is calling for a pact for child and adolescent health that is intended to sustainably improve the conditions for healthy growth.
The pact must include, among other things, improving medical care for children and young people, strengthening prevention and health promotion from birth onwards and protecting against the consequences of climate change, it was said at the annual BVKJ delegate meeting in Frankfurt.
In addition, the supply of medicines should be ensured, research into child health should be promoted and mental health care services should be expanded. Another important requirement is the involvement of outpatient and inpatient practitioners in the development of reform concepts.
The BVKJ delegate assembly is also pushing for political measures to counteract the shortage of skilled workers in the outpatient sector. This included counter-financing the wage development for medical assistants (MFA), reducing bureaucracy in doctors’ practices and in digitalization projects, as well as an image campaign for the MFA profession.
The delegates also decided, among other things, on a proposal for patient control. This is about strengthening family doctor-centered care, making triaging in emergency care more suitable for children and young people, and remunerating equivalent services more fairly in cross-sector care.
The association also decided to found the Junge BVKJ as a platform for young talent. The first goals of the Young BVKJ should, among other things, be the development of a mentoring concept to support those taking on a new practice and the development of further training formats specifically for the young target group. © hil/aerzteblatt.de
