Berlin – After the numbers declined during the corona pandemic, more than 31,000 child and youth rehabilitation programs were approved again last year. This means that the number is almost at pre-pandemic levels.
According to the German Pension Insurance, this corresponds to a share of three percent of all rehabilitation services it provides. In 2023, 56,000 applications for child and youth rehabilitation were received, around 5,000 more than in the previous year. In 2022, around 29,000 services were approved and completed.
On the occasion of World Children’s Day next Saturday, the German Pension Insurance wants to draw attention to and inform about child and youth rehabilitation.
In view of the increased mental disorders among children and adolescents during the corona pandemic, there is expected to be an increased need for rehabilitation in the future.
In contrast to mother/father-child treatment, child or youth rehabilitation focuses on the child and its treatment. Since the Flexi-Pension Act came into force in 2016, the offer includes inpatient, full-day outpatient and outpatient services as well as aftercare services. © nfs/aerzteblatt.de
