Berlin – The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has published a new fact sheet on meningococcal vaccination. It summarizes important information on the development and risks of the invasive disease, presents different vaccines and vaccination schedules, and is intended to support doctors in informing patients.
Invasive meningococcal diseases are rare, but also very dangerous. “Due to the potentially severe clinical course, possible subsequent damage and the high mortality rate, the reduction of invasive meningococcal diseases is of great importance for the population despite their rarity,” emphasizes the RKI.
The new RKI information sheet therefore shows the course and dangers of invasive meningococcal diseases, provides information about risk groups and offers answers to frequently asked questions from patients.
In order to support the vaccinating medical profession in their daily work, the RKI also provides fact sheets on the TBE vaccination, the HPV vaccination, the herpes zoster vaccination, the influenza vaccination, the measles vaccination, the pneumococcal vaccination, on false and correct contraindications and on “vaccinations during pregnancy”. The fact sheets on the COVID-19 vaccination are currently being revised. © hil/sb/aerzteblatt.de
