Frankfurt am Main – The salaries of doctors at Hessian university hospitals are to increase by a total of 10.2 percent in two steps: in July 2024 the increase will be 4.1 percent and in May 2025 a further 6.1 percent. This is what the new collective agreement of the Marburger Bund (MB) with the university hospitals in Frankfurt, Gießen and Marburg provides for.

It is to be valid until the end of June 2026. The negotiation result still has to be approved by the committees of the MB and the university hospitals.

The collective agreement also provides for a tax-free one-off payment of up to 2,250 euros, as well as a reduction in working hours, better shift pay, better regulations for night work and the right to return-to-work interviews before the end of parental leave.

“This is an acceptable mix of salary increase and workload relief,” summarized Christian Schwark, Chairman of MB Hessen.

According to the agreement, working hours will be reduced from 42 to 40 hours per week from January 2026, with full compensation. In addition, doctors will be entitled to an additional day off per calendar year.

The night shift allowances and allowances for Sunday work on call will also increase. The regulations on night work have been changed so that more additional leave will be possible in the future and more allowances will be paid.

In a first step, the existing allowances for shift and rotating shift work were almost tripled. © hil/aerzteblatt.de
