Berlin The future of the program for the development of the National Care Guidelines (NVL) is apparently secured: The German Medical Association (BK) and the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV) have agreed that work on the NVL will in future be continued by the Central Institute for Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (Zi).

This was announced by the BK and KBV in a joint letter to Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD), who German Medical Journal Until the end of the year, the development of the NVL will be located at the Medical Center for Quality in Medicine (ZQ), which will, however, be dissolved on December 31, 2024.

With the Central Institute for Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, a renowned and professionally independent foundation has now declared itself willing to design and develop the NVL,” wrote BK President Klaus Reinhardt and KBV Chairman Andreas Gassen in the letter.

The ZI’s decision to take on the task is welcomed. KBV and BK will accompany the program as part of a patronage and through the advisory board and will also support it financially, it continues. Since the development of the NVL is complex, we believe it is important that financing options from the Innovation Fund can also be used.

Since 2024, the Innovation Fund can also be used to support the development of medical guidelines worth five million euros.
