Schwabmünchen/Bobingen – The Wertach clinics near Augsburg have fallen victim to a hacker attack. According to initial analyses, the main IT system was blocked in the attack on the hospitals in Bobingen and Schwabmünchen, a spokesperson for the clinics said.

Both clinics are currently operating in an analogue, limited manner. The operations planned for today in Bobingen have been cancelled as a precaution. The attack was noticed last night due to widespread IT disruptions. Patients, employees and authorities were immediately informed of the IT outages.

The Wertachkliniken team is working hard to restore the smooth operation of the IT systems and the regular processes of the clinics as quickly as possible, it said. “The safety and well-being of our patients are our highest priority,” said clinic director Martin Gösele.

According to the North Swabia Police Headquarters, cybercrime specialists from the police have been investigating the case since yesterday. The main aim is to clarify the background to the crime. For tactical reasons, a police spokesperson did not provide any information on the type of attack or a possible lead to the perpetrators. © dpa/aerzteblatt.de
