The “Women in Ophthalmology” working group was founded in March 2024 with the aim of promoting female opthalmologists, analyzing the causes of the structural disadvantage faced by women and developing concrete solutions to eliminate it. By increasing visibility, equal opportunities are to be achieved, particularly in science, in leadership positions and in operational activities. The working group sees concrete tasks in the implementation of funding programs, the scientific analysis of the current status of the gender gap within the structures of ophthalmology and the development of solutions, for example for a better compatibility of work and family. The working group meets twice a year as part of the AAD and the DOG. There are also two online meetings per year.
