Potsdam During the coalition negotiations between the SPD and BSW in Brandenburg, an agreement on support for hospitals is emerging. According to information from German press agency Both parties fundamentally agree on the goal that the hospital locations should be preserved. Both sides are generally in favor of hospitals receiving more investment than last year.
However, there are no final results from the working groups yet. The clinics have so far received a lump sum investment of 110 million euros, which was increased to around 200 million this year. That is also the sum that the SPD named in its election program. The BSW program talked about adequate hospital investments.
The federal government is planning hospital reform. The goal is fewer hospitals in the country, but better quality and more specialization. The project still has to go through the Federal Council. According to the Ministry of Health, there are 54 hospitals at 66 locations in Brandenburg.
Brandenburg’s executive minister Ursula Nonnemacher (Greens) also expressed confidence in smaller clinics after the hospital reform passed by the Bundestag.
The SPD and BSW have been negotiating a joint coalition since last Monday, which would be a first in Germany. The discussions are taking place in a main group and four working groups on education/culture, interior/justice, economy/health and transport/environment.
Both sides aim to finish the talks before Christmas. Only the SPD and BSW have a realistic majority in the state parliament because no party wants to form a coalition with the AfD. © dpa/aerzteblatt.de
