Berlin/Dresden – The CDU is pushing for a fundamental reform of nursing care insurance. The current insurance is to be converted into a federally financed full insurance that covers all nursing care-related costs. A corresponding report in the newspaper The world confirmed the Saxon State Chancellery and spoke of an East-West paper, because the concept originates from Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia.
The background to the initiative is the sharp rise in care costs. One in three people in need of care is already dependent on social assistance because their pension is not enough to cover the care costs, it was said. “In Saxony, it is even more than one in three. Pensions of an average of 1,200 to 1,400 euros are offset by care costs of 3,000 euros per month. Anyone in need automatically becomes a social case,” quoted The world Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU).
“North Rhine-Westphalia’s Minister of Social Affairs, Karl-Josef Laumann, and I have therefore developed a concept for a system change, for full insurance that covers all care-related costs,” said Kretschmer. According to calculations by the IGES Institute, this would require around 16.5 billion euros in the example year 2026, which the federal government is to cover.
According to the information, this could save people in need of care and their families a total of 8.9 billion euros. This is the amount that those affected have to pay themselves each year through their own contribution to care-related costs. “People in need of care and their families would then only have to cover the costs that are not directly related to the care,” explained Kretschmer.
According to the CDU concept, these include investment, operating and catering costs. “If contributors also want to protect themselves against these costs, they should in future be able to take out voluntarily affordable supplementary care insurance that covers their scope,” the newspaper quoted from the reform paper. © dpa/aerzteblatt.de
